Dossier - Building 113 - Felicia FELICIA ROLE Nurse, Building 113 COVERT SPECIALTY Patient Response and Anomalous Effects OVERVIEW Felicia is one of the nurses caring for veterans receiving rehabilitation at Building 113. She works alongside William and the other nursing staff, but she has her own personality and way of dealing with patients. Felicia is warm, confident, personable, and direct. She enjoys talking with the veterans and has a way of getting beyond the automatic answers people sometimes give when asked how they are doing. If somebody tells her, "I'm fine," and she doesn't believe that is the whole answer, she keeps the conversation going. She listens. She pays attention. She knows when to joke, when to encourage someone, and when to become serious. PATIENT CARE Felicia's primary concern is the patients. The veterans are at Building 113 for rehabilitation, and their care remains her first responsibility. She is part of a larger nursing staff, so she is not personally responsible for every patient or every medical situation in the building. Her strength is the connection she makes with the people she is caring for. Patients talk to her. Sometimes an ordinary conversation tells Felicia more than a formal question would. COVERT ROLE Felicia's nursing experience gives her a specific place within the covert side of Building 113. When something unusual happens around a patient, Felicia concentrates on the patient rather than trying to explain the phenomenon. She wants to know what the person experienced, whether anything feels different, and whether medical attention is needed. She leaves the technical explanation to the people responsible for understanding Building 113. Her responsibility is the human side of the event. PERSONALITY Felicia does not walk around treating Building 113 like an emergency waiting to happen. She works. She talks with people. She laughs. She keeps things moving. She can also be straightforward. If somebody gives her an answer that does not sound quite right, she may simply say: "Try that again." That is usually enough. When Felicia becomes unusually quiet or stops joking, the people who know her understand that something has caught her attention. WILLIAM AND THE NURSING STAFF William is also a nurse at Building 113 and has already been involved in the Fracture Event. Felicia does not duplicate William's role. They are part of the same nursing environment, along with the other nurses working at Building 113. William has his strengths. Felicia has hers. Felicia is particularly good at talking with patients, listening to what they are actually saying, and recognizing when an ordinary conversation may contain something worth paying closer attention to. THE FRACTURE EVENT The Fracture Event established that unusual things can happen inside Building 113 while veterans continue going through their normal rehabilitation. That gives Felicia's covert role a purpose. If an unusual event involves a patient, someone from the nursing side needs to understand what that person experienced. Felicia can do that without making the patient feel like part of an investigation. She talks to the patient as a nurse. If something important comes out of that conversation, she knows when it needs to be passed along. STRENGTH Felicia's strength is people. Technology can report what happened inside Building 113. Felicia may be the person who discovers what happened to someone who was there. CORE PRINCIPLE Take care of the patient. Listen to what they're telling you. Then figure out the rest.
